Tech Camps

Available to campers currently in grade 3 through age 12, Roeper offers three unique Tech Camps during the summer - Javascript Programming & Minecraft Game Design  OR  3D Printing & Roblox Game Design OR Comic Creators. Campers participate in focused activities for part of the day and Swimming, Outdoor Adventure and Group Choice activities for the remainder of the day. These classes will be taught virtually in an on-campus computer lab. Campers will need to bring their own laptops as Roeper has a very limited number of devices to lend. Campers build valuable STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) skills.

Tech Camps are offered by AccelerateKID Summer Tech Camps, who, in 2013, set out to reinvent "tech camps" to create future creators for the 21st century.

12:10-12:40 - Recess
12:40-1:30 - Outdoor Adventure
1:30-2:20 - Group Choice Activity

Costs:
Sessions 1, 2 and 3 are $910 per session
Session 4 is $455

Register for all 7 weeks of camp (any combination) and receive a $300 discount applied after registration
Campers will need to bring their own PC laptops for all Tech Camps

  • 3D Printing & Roblox Game Design

    offered session 2: July 12 - 23

    Campers will learn 3D Printing using TinkerCAD and multi-player game design using Roblox Studios. Campers will have FUN learning and experiencing the latest technology.

    The following system OS/hardware will ensure Roblox Studio runs smoothly:
    - PC/Windows — Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, or Windows 10, running IE (Internet Explorer) version 11 or higher. For Windows 8/8.1 you will need to run Roblox in Desktop Mode, as Metro Mode (the tiled start-screen) is not currently supported.
    - Mac — macOS 10.11 (El Capitan) and above.
    - Graphics Card — A computer less than 5 years old with a dedicated video card, or a laptop less than 3 years old with an integrated video card.
    - Processor — Processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz or better.
    - Memory — At least 1 GB of system memory.
    - In addition, a 2-button mouse with a scroll wheel will enhance your Studio experience.

  • Javascript Programming & Minecraft Game Design

    offered session 1:  June 28- July 9
    offered session 3: July 26 - August 6

    Campers will learn multiple technologies including app design with Javascript programming language and game design with Minecraft PC Edition. NOTE:  Campers must purchase a Minecraft PC account to participate in this class.  The Minecraft  PC Java edition is available on line at www.minecraft.net for a one-time payment of $26.95. It is recommended that campers purchase this in advance of the start of camp so as to test their account access.

    System Requirements for Javascript & Minecraft:
    - Operating System of 64 bit Windows 7 or later
    - At least 4 GB of RAM.
    - CPU of Intel Core i3 3210/AMD A8 7600 APU or equivalent
    - HDD with 180MB to 1 GB available space
    - GPU of Intel HD Graphics 4000 or AMD Radeon R5 series/NVIDIA GeForce 400 Series or AMD Radeon HD 7000 series
    - The Chrome web browser is optimal
    - A screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels or higher is recommended to make it easier to work
    - Tablets may be used only if you have a keyboard attachment

  • Comic Creators

    offered session 4: August 9 - 13

    Campers will create and design a personal Comic Book Project. The goal is to learn the key phases of how to create a compelling comic book for fans. Every student will design their personal comic book and present their build at the end of the week!  In addition, students will gain 21st century skills including creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.  The classes will educate kids about comic book design and computer science.
